Introduction

I started documenting my looks in the beginning of 2024 without much of a thought about what I wanted to do with it later – if anything at all. Like the true scatter brain that I am, I haven’t been taking ootd pics religiously every day – or even every week – but rather when I’ve been happy with the way I look.

Since I was a kid, I’ve been wanting to be the person that keeps a diary or can journal with some regularity, but the blank page always seemed too daunting and kept me from ever even starting. Well, I’m going to push myself over that figurative edge and give this thing a go. I want to share my documentations, thoughts on fashion and links to podcasts, articles and fashion shows I find interesting and important for this industry of ours. I hope that this page can serve as an archive for myself and hopefully you, the reader, find it interesting too. So please feel welcome to have a look in my world, I hope it sparks conversations!

What truly sparked me into starting this journal is personal style. Boring! you might think but, in my opinion, personal style, and individual expression, will keep us sane in trying times but also in this time of AI and the algorithm. Thus, I want to document my own personal style in the hopes that I might develop it further and share my thoughts along the way. Keep in mind that I’m not a fashion historian, archivist, editor, or stylist – at least not formally – but I am a fashion designer, and I suppose I look at the world (of fashion) through a designer’s lens.

Another catalyst for journaling was my experience of trend fatigue caused by social media, my feed saturated with looks each more gorgeous than the next. I think that the quest for personal style will help against this sort of burnout because when we find our individual expression it’s easier to be confident and stand strong in our own gorgeous boots. Personal style is our sartorial signature, our visual voice, a tool for communicating who we are, or who we want to be. Dress for the job you want, as they say!

Indeed, one of the more compelling aspects of personal style is its transformative power. Cultivating a strong sense of personal style is a journey of self-discovery, which is incredibly empowering. It's about tapping into your intuition, daring to experiment with different aesthetics, and embracing what resonates with your innermost self. Perhaps it can be traced even further than capitalism (maybe it’s just how we humans are), but I find that this system we live in often seeks to dictate norms and impose standards of beauty, and in this system personal style serves as a powerful, subversive tool for reclaiming agency over one’s appearance.

At the moment I’m obsessed with: swimwear and underwear as outerwear, basket weave, beading
